As we gear up for the first-ever rhythm and ramps we're going to introduce everybody to the DJ’s and Vendors we will be having at Kona! So as we approach Sept 28th we will be releasing our interviews and answers from all the artists in a spotlight series!
For our first spotlight post we are excited to feature Andre Kimbrough, better known as Inner-G on the decks. Let’s dive into the musical journey of a DJ who’s all about passion, energy, and performing unforgettable sets.
Q: Can you share a bit about your background and how you started DJing/producing?
Inner-G: “Growing up, DJing was part of my life. My dad was a DJ in the U.S. Army and built clubs on military bases. He always had the equipment at home, and I started experimenting with it as soon as I was old enough. The more I understood, the deeper I wanted to dive.”
Q: Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
Inner-G: “Flosstradamus (when they were a duo)
Alison Wonderland
Dotcom
RL Grime and his Halloween mixes
Travis Scott
Sky-Hye and Jae Palma
We The Plug
I learned to shape energy and take it to another level from most of list. There are fundamentals and basics that need to be learned so huge shout out to those Jax mentors that gave me my beginning opportunity and help shape me. ”
Q: How do you prepare for a live performance?
Inner-G: “I Just need an IPA and if the crowd is feeling it then LFG. THE MORE ENGAGED THE FANBASE IS BEFORE THE SHOW THE MORE EFFORT I PUT IN. It’s a Hype Train. The earlier you get on the better “
Q: Besides music, what are you passionate about?
Inner-G: “ I love golf and technology. Nothing beats dropping everything for a round of 18 though ☝🏾“
Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Inner-G: “The people that gassed you up and said they would come to your shows and support you all the time are not going to be there and they will fade away. Once you realize that your biggest supporters are going to be people you’ve never met creatively gives me more confidence because I know I’m creating what I like not what my friends think is cool. ”
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in music?
Inner-G: “You can’t do it without a team. Treat it like a job and remember no matter how experienced you are you can always learn something new even from someone who may not have as much expertise as you.”
We hope aspiring DJs and musicians find inspiration and value in Andre's advice and passion for music.
Prepare to turn up to a mix of hip-hop, trap, and dubstep like you've never heard before. Don't miss out on the chance to experience Inner-G at Kona Skatepark Saturday, September 28th.
